THE POETICS OF CRAFT SEFROU, MOROCCO
‘In any creative work, be it the artist or the artisan, the creative person unites with the material they are working with, which symbolises the world outside him/herself. The worker and the artefact become one. The human being becomes one with his creation. ‘ Erich Fromm
The word Poiein in Ancient Greek (ποιεῖν) means making. It is where the word Poetry comes from. Plato had pointed at the connection between craft-making and poetry, calling us to gaze at the rich worlds of form and meaning that come to life when we take raw material from our landscape and create with it. It is possible, when we look at a handcrafted object, to appreciate the emotion and soul life that the maker had infused in it.

Sefrou is located in the heart of the middle Atlas. Traditionally, a market town located amidst fertile farming lands, it is known for its fruit orchards, cherry festival and the large Jewish community that lived there up until the last century. Sefrou is still home to a large community of local artisans, metal smiths, woodworkers, weavers and button makers. Though the community is still thriving, few are the ones of the young generation who wish to learn these skills.
Visiting local crafts people in their workshops, we will learn about their work and daily lives as a way to get a sense of the place through the people and their working spaces. An orientation of the city from the inside out hosted by Culture Vultures, will lead us into a deeper relationship with Amazigh women who spin and weave and we will participate in a hands own textile workshop.
We will be introduced to ‘The Loom in Local Rituals’ and how women used the loom as a sacred medium for protection. On Sunday we will make a day trip to a mountain market town in the Middle Atlas where the wool comes from, to meet women who practice unbroken textile traditions in the region.
Alongside these visits our work will consist of listening to the stories that emerge from our activities, as well as engage with traditional stories from around the world to bring into clearer focus the role of craft-making in the life of the Soul. On our last day we will share these stories in a storytelling evening (no previous experience necessary). Daily shamanic practices will help us access ancestral knowledge and seek healing for modern day’s rupture between skill and community, craft and Time.

SESSION GUIDELINES
Thank you for your interest in working with me as a client, either in person or at a distance using the online platform zoom. I am providing you with the following information so you can make an informed choice about your decision to engage my services.
INTRODUCTION
Energy healing is a practice that seeks to balance the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the human being. My services are not a substitute for counselling, mental health care or medical treatment of any kind.
The process takes place with the client fully clothed, lying on a therapy couch. During distance healing sessions the client will make her/himself comfortable and receptive in a quiet place at home, while connected digitally via zoom.
A session lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on the work we do. Please allow yourself some quiet time afterwards if you can.
It is very important that I have a full understanding of your state of physical and mental health. You will provide me with such information and assistance (and ensure that any information is complete and accurate) as I reasonably need to be able to offer you the healing session.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Sessions are spirit led so when I connect to your energy field I will be guided to do the energy work. Here are some of the things you may experience during a session: You may see images or colours in your mind’s eye. You may experience warmth or tingling sensations in your body. You may receive insights about life situations or relationships, you may become aware of behavioural patterns or beliefs you hold or experience memories surfacing. Deep emotion may be accessed during a session. Clients often report feeling a sense of deep relaxation, vitality, reduced stress and anxiety and a general sense of wellbeing after a session.
It is important to understand I’m not diagnosing or treating the physical body, which is the domain of the medical field and other health care professionals. Nor am I a councillor, trained psychiatrist or psychologist. I have been trained and certified in spiritual / energy healing techniques.
POST SESSION CONSIDERATIONS
Over the 20 years of healing practice, I have seen time and time again that people hold their unique recipe for their own healing medicine, and in order to help them find it and express it I need to listen deeply to their queues and offer 'nudges' in the right moments. After the healing session I usually ‘prescribe’ a creative task for the client, that can come in the form of a suggested meditation, ritual, engagement in nature or story, for example. The inspiration for these creative acts will be derived from the session and through my conversation with you. They are meant to help you to integrate the emotions and the work that has been carried out during the session and to put into action in a creative way, some element which has been touched upon.
FEE & PAYMENT
A healing session is £50 per hour / £75 for 90 minutes.
A wide sliding scale is offered for people in different economic backgrounds in the local and global context.
The first session will always be 2 hours long. The length of subsequent sessions will be established between us after our first appointment.
Payment will be made via bank transfer, or paypal. For paypal payments there will be a surcharge of 3%.
Payment is expected to be made prior to any appointment (distance work) or at the time of service (in person), unless previous arrangements have been made.
BOOKING A SESSION
Please contact me via email to book a session or to arrange a free 30 minute chat where we can discuss your needs. Please state your name, and your time zone for ease of session time coordination. Once a session has been booked you are requested to make your payment.
CANCELLATION POLICY
You can rearrange or cancel any session providing you give me at least 24 hours’ notice. If you give me less than 24 hours’ notice, fail to turn up to a session or have already rearranged 2 sessions, you will be deemed to have taken the session and you will not be able to reschedule it or entitled to any compensation for missing it.
My services might be affected by events beyond my reasonable control, such as include illness, IT issues and problems with internet connectivity. If so, there might be a delay before I can restart the services. I shall make reasonable efforts to limit the effect of any of those events, I shall keep you informed of the circumstances and I shall try to restart the services as soon as those events have been fixed.
If you have any questions concerning any of the above please don’t hesitate to ask.
